Bhai, first-year Physics at GTU is weird. Half the class is doing cantilevers and Ruby lasers, the other half is stuck on Kronig-Penney and Fermi levels, and everyone calls it "the GTU Physics paper". So we did the boring part for you. We downloaded 22 official GTU Physics question papers straight from GTU's own repository, across three subject codes, and counted every topic question by question. Below is what actually repeats, how often, and how to plan around it. No "100% pakka questions" drama, just counts you can check yourself.
Step zero: kaunsa Physics hai tera?
GTU has more than one first-year "Physics". Check your hall ticket before you study a single page:
3110011 — "For Group I Branches" (scheme w.e.f. AY 2018-19): Properties of matter, waves and acoustics, ultrasonics and NDT, superconductivity, lasers
3110018 — "For group - 2 branches": Electronic materials, semiconductors, light-semiconductor interaction, measurements, superconductivity
BE01000021 — "Branch: ALL", w.e.f. 2024-25: Properties of matter, waves and acoustics, optics, quantum physics, lasers, new engineering materials
BE01R00021 — "Branch: ALL" (2025-26 PDF): Same units and weightage as BE01000021
GTU's syllabus PDFs say "Group I" and "group 2" but do not list which branches sit in which group. [CONFIRM: branch list for Group I and Group 2 from a GTU circular]
So is it a sem 1 paper or a sem 2 paper?
Both, and this is the "sem 1 and 2" confusion sorted. Every 3110011 and 3110018 paper we checked is headed "BE - SEMESTER - I & II EXAMINATION", and so are the BE01000021 papers up to Winter 2025. Physics is a first-year subject, so the same paper serves students who take it in semester 1 and those who take it in semester 2. The new syllabus just says "Semester: Ist Year". The Summer 2026 BE01000021 paper is headed "SEMESTER 1".
Which semester your branch gets Physics in depends on your scheme and group. [CONFIRM: semester-wise allotment of Physics per branch from the GTU teaching scheme] In practice: if your paper is in Winter, you are probably a sem 1 batch; if it is in Summer, you are probably a sem 2 batch. Same code, same syllabus, same paper style either way.
GTU Physics exam pattern
From the official teaching schemes (3110011, 3110018 and BE01000021 all match):
Teaching: 3 lectures + 0 tutorials + 2 practical hours, 4 credits
Marks: theory ESE 70 + PA 30, practical ESE (viva) 30 + PA 20 = 150
Bloom's split for theory: Remember 30%, Understand 40%, Apply 30%
BE01R00021's scheme table shows a total of 200 marks. [CONFIRM: BE01R00021 practical and total marks split]
From the 22 papers (Summer 2022 to Summer 2026):
Duration: 2.5 hours (10:30 AM to 1:00 PM or 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM). Not 3 hours, unlike Maths.
Total: 70 marks, 5 questions × 14
Split: Mostly (a) 3 + (b) 4 + (c) 7
Choice: Q.1 has no OR. Q.2 has an OR only on part (c). Q.3, Q.4 and Q.5 have a full OR.
Calculator: "Simple and non-programmable scientific calculators are allowed" in every paper.
Translation: Q.1 is compulsory. Q.2(c) gives you a lifeline. From Q.3 onwards, if one side scares you, the OR side is right there.
Unit-wise syllabus and weightage
Straight from the official GTU syllabus PDFs:
3110011 (Group I)
Properties of Matter (7 hrs, 19%)
Waves, Motion and Acoustics (7 hrs, 19%)
Ultrasonic and NDT (9 hrs, 25%)
Superconductivity (6 hrs, 17%)
Lasers (7 hrs, 20%)
3110018 (Group 2)
Electronic Materials (8 hrs, 22%)
Semiconductors (10 hrs, 27%)
Light-Semiconductor Interaction (6 hrs, 17%)
Measurements (6 hrs, 17%)
Superconductivity (6 hrs, 17%)
BE01000021 / BE01R00021
Properties of Matter (6 hrs, 13%)
Waves, Motion and Acoustics (8 hrs, 18%)
Optics (8 hrs, 18%)
Quantum Physics (8 hrs, 18%)
Lasers (8 hrs, 18%)
New Engineering Materials (7 hrs, 15%)
Notice superconductivity sits in all three, and lasers sit in two. Bhai, those are your "common enemy" chapters.
The method (how we counted)
We pulled every paper GTU's repository served for these codes, from Summer 2022 to Summer 2026:
3110011: 9 papers (S2022, W2022, S2023, W2023, S2024, W2024, S2025, W2025, S2026)
3110018: 9 papers (same 9 sessions)
BE01000021: 4 papers (W2024, S2025, W2025, S2026). The W2025 and S2026 PDFs served under BE01R00021 are byte-for-byte the same file, headed "BE01000021/BE01R00021", so we counted them once
We extracted text with pdftotext, then tagged every sub-question (including the OR options) with a topic. A topic counts once per paper, however many times it appears in that paper. A few lines in the 3110018 Summer 2025 and Summer 2026 PDFs did not extract as text, so those two papers may be slightly under-counted.
Most repeated topics: 3110011 (Group I)
Ruby laser construction and working (Lasers): 9/9 papers, usually 7 marks
Twisting couple, torsion or torsional pendulum (Properties of matter): 9/9 papers, 3 to 7 marks

Fermi function probability numerical (Electronic materials): 7/9 papers, 3 or 4 marks
Einstein coefficients or matter-radiation interaction (Light-semiconductor): 6/9 papers, usually 7 marks
Hall effect (Measurements): 6/9 papers, 3 to 7 marks
BE01000021 (new scheme): early signals
Only 4 papers exist so far, so treat this as a trend, not a law:
4/4: a laser question (plus population inversion or metastable state definitions), a Schrödinger equation or particle-in-a-box question, and a semiconductor question (p-n junction, n vs p type or Zener)
3/4: Young's double slit, Michelson interferometer, de Broglie, Heisenberg, STM, black body radiation, ultrasonic production, isotope effect numerical, nanomaterials, cantilever or bending, reverberation
Optics and quantum (36% together) are brand new compared to 3110011, and they are already showing up hard.
Same question, different session
Not "similar type". The same question, copy-paste level:

Band gap of LED emitting blue light of 452 nm: 3110018 W2023 Q.3(b) OR, S2026 Q.2(b)
Plot twist: some questions jump across codes. So if you are on BE01000021, the old 3110011 papers are solid practice for the common units (properties of matter, acoustics, ultrasonics, lasers).
Honest disclaimer: past repetition is a pattern, not a promise. GTU can change the paper any time. Use these tables to set priorities, not to skip the syllabus.
How to download GTU Physics papers (official steps)
Every paper in this article came from GTU's repository. To get the same ones:
Open gtu.ac.in/Download1.aspx
Pick the Session (W = Winter, S = Summer, for example W2025)
Pick BE as the course
Search your code: 3110011, 3110018 or BE01000021
Open the PDF link
When we downloaded them in Oct 2026, the files sat at old26.gtu.ac.in/uploads/<session>/BE/<code>.pdf. GTU reshuffles its site sometimes, so if a saved link breaks, go back through the search form.
Too lazy for 22 dropdown rounds? Fair. GTUHero's papers page lets you pick university, branch, semester, subject and year, and loads the matching papers in one place.
About that "GTU Physics paper solution PDF"
Real talk: GTU's repository serves question papers, and we did not find official solution PDFs there. Most "gtu physics paper solution pdf" results online come from coaching sites, seniors or random uploads, and the quality is a lottery. Before trusting one:
Match the code. A 3110018 solution is useless for a 3110011 paper. Different syllabus entirely.
Check the derivation steps. 7-mark questions (cantilever, Kronig-Penney, Einstein coefficients) are marked on steps and diagrams, not just the final line.
Recheck numericals with units. Critical field, Sabine and Fermi function sums are where typos in random PDFs hurt most.
On GTUHero, model answers come with the paper history: year, exam type, marks and a link to the source PDF. [CONFIRM: Physics model answers are live on GTUHero, and current Basic vs Pro plan features]
